Donald Glover & Rihanna – Guava Island

Guava Island dropped on Amazon Prime Video and there were a few Amazon Videos shared.  Those videos continued with the release of the screening event at Coachella 2019, which Donald Glover attended to promote the movie.  There was also a clip of Glover and Rhianna in the movie.  This is a chance to listen to Glover’s amazing voice, along with his sexy dance moves.

A young musician seeks to hold a festival to liberate the oppressed people of Guava Island, even if only for a day.

Guava Island is a 2019 American musical film directed by Hiro Murai (his feature directorial debut) with a screenplay by Stephen Glover from a story by Donald Glover, Stephen Glover, Ibra Ake, Jamal Olori and Fam Udeorji. It stars Donald Glover and Rihanna in the lead roles of Deni and Kofi, respectively, and was first exhibited at Coachella. It was then released by Amazon Studios through Amazon Prime Video.

An animated folk tale narrated by Kofi Novia introduces the origins of Guava Island and the music played by Deni Maroon. Kofi and Deni live together and she wakes up to Deni playing a tune on the guitar. Deni, a local celebrity, rushes out of the house and is greeted by many passersby on the street on his way to work; Deni is holding a music festival that the whole town is looking forward to. He is mugged by a group of kids he knows and he convinces them not to rob him by promising them seats up front at the festival.

Kofi works as a seamstress with Yara while Deni works for Red Cargo, a business magnate on the island. While at work, an employee details what he would do if he were able to emigrate to America, which Deni dismisses as ignorant (“This Is America“).  Deni is kidnapped and taken to Red Cargo’s office.  Red bribes Deni into canceling his festival so that it will not interrupt productivity the next day.  When Deni challenges him, Red destroys his guitar.

He returns to Kofi, who immediately questions his injury and his guitar’s absence. Deni brushes off her inquiry, instead serenading her with the song he had promised to write since they were children (“Summertime Magic“). They are interrupted when Deni suddenly has to go, and she is not able to tell him at that moment she is pregnant. Kofi expresses to Yara that she is reluctant to tell him because of his free-spirited lifestyle.

Inspired by two children, Zoila and Mapi (“Time”), Deni performs on the radio again and announces that the festival is back on (“Feels Like Summer“). Kofi is ambushed by Red while both look for Deni; Red asks Kofi to tell him to break a leg. Deni starts the festival late, and performs a song dedicated to Zoila and Mapi (“Saturday”). Kofi spots a masked gunman just before he opens fire on the stage. Deni attempts to escape through an alleyway, but the gunman eventually catches up and assassinates him.

Red is delighted with the development, only to find out all of his employees have left work.  Kofi and the islanders have all opted to attend a joyous blue-themed memorial for Deni (“Die with You”); Kofi states that they all finally “got their day”.  Kofi tells their child a new and improved version of the story.

Production

In August 2018, it had been reported that actors and musicians Donald Glover and Rihanna had been filming a secret project in Cuba titled Guava Island throughout that summer.  Glover’s Atlanta collaborator Hiro Murai was directing, with Letitia Wright and Nonso Anozie also involved.

Jeremy Sisto – CBS FBI – Homeward LA‘s Kick-Off 2019

Jeremy Sisto is excellent in the CBS series FBI, helping to steer the team as Assistant Special Agent in Charge Jubal Valentine.  The CBS series is shedding some light on his character’s personal life, giving him an opportunity to take center stage.

Sisto spoke to One Chicago Center about why portraying Jubal is different from many of his previous roles. He also talked about re-teaming with creator Dick Wolf after his three seasons starring as Cyrus Lupo on Law & Order, and working with creatives from Wolf’s One Chicago franchise.

Jeremy Sisto’s career has moved effortlessly between film, television and theater, and he has continued to have a constant presence throughout the entertainment industry.

Sisto made his first major impression on television as bipolar artist Billy Chenowith on “Six Feet Under.” In its five-year run, the show earned three Golden Globe Awards, three Primetime Emmy Awards and 25 Emmy nominations.

Additional television credits include “Ice,” “Wicked City,” “The Returned,” “Kidnapped,” “Law & Order” and “Suburgatory.” Also, he starred in National Geographic’s television miniseries “The Long Road Home.”

His feature film credits include the classic “Clueless,” “Break Point,” which he co-wrote and produced, “The Other Side of the Door,” “Hangman,” “Grand Canyon,” “Hideaway,” “Robot And Frank,” “Moonlight And Valentino,” “White Squall,” “Without Limits,” “Suicide Kings,” “Thirteen,” “Wrong Turn” and “Waitress.” Also, Sisto lent his voice to the Academy Award and Golden Globe-nominated animated film “Ferdinand.”

In New York, he made his Broadway debut in “Festen,” a stage adaptation of Thomas Vinterberg’s film “The Celebration.” Also, he starred in Beau Willimon’s “Spirit Control” at the Manhattan Theater Club, about a man’s 30-year struggle with post-traumatic stress disorder. His Los Angeles theater credits include “Take Me Out,” which earned him a Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for Featured Performance, Sidney Kingsley’s “Dead End” at the Ahmanson Theater, and the one-man show “Sanguine” at the 2nd Stage.

Academy of Country Music Awards 2019

The Academy of Country Music Awards, also known as the ACM Awards, were first held in 1966, honoring the industry’s accomplishments during the previous year. It was the first country music awards program held by a major organization. The Academy’s signature “hat” trophy was first created in 1968. The awards were first televised in 1972 on ABC. In 1979, the Academy joined with Dick Clark Productions to produce the show. Dick Clark and Al Schwartz served as producers while Gene Weed served as director. Under their guidance, the show moved to NBC and finally to CBS, where it remains today.

In 2003, the awards show left Los Angeles and moved to Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Events Center through 2005. The Academy also adopted a sleeker, modern version of the “hat” trophy in 2003, which is now made by the New York City firm Society Awards. In 2004, the organization implemented online awards voting for its professional members, becoming the first televised awards show to do so. Entertainer of the Year was a fan-voted award for eight years, until 2016, when the ACM announced its decision to abandon Internet-voting for it and the three new-artist categories.

The show was moved to the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas from 2006 through 2014 before relocating to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex in 2015 to celebrate its 50th anniversary. The 2015 show broke the Guinness record for Most Attended Awards Show, with 70,252 The show returned to the MGM Grand Garden Arena in 2016 then moved to the new T-Mobile Arena in 2017. In 2018, the ACM Awards returned to the MGM Grand Garden Arena. It was announced on February 20, 2019, that the show would be held again at the MGM Grand Garden Area with the return of Reba McEntire as the hostess for her 16th time.

Country music icon Reba McEntire has returned to hosting the 54th Academy of Country Music Awards for the 16th time Sunday night. Chris Stapleton and Keith Urban lead in the top categories with nominations for both male artist of the year and entertainer of the year.

McEntire also shared some details about her hosting gig, which she promised would be politics-free.

“We’ve got to keep it light. We’ve got to keep it fun. No politics. This is fun. This is entertainment. We are in the entertainment business, and that’s what we’re going to be doing,” she said.

Artists of the decade

Triple-Crown Award

The Triple-Crown Award is an elite honor that has been presented to only eight country artists in the history of the Academy of Country Music Awards. The honor distinguishes the achievement of an artist, duo or group upon receiving the New Artist (or New Male Vocalist, New Female Vocalist, New Solo Vocalist, New Vocal Duo, New Vocal Group or New Vocal Duo or Group), and Male/Female Vocalist (or Vocal Duo, Vocal Group, Vocal Duo or Group) and Entertainer of the Year awards.[8] Among the later recipients, Carrie Underwood received it at the ACM Awards,[9] while Jason Aldean at the Annual ACM Honors.[10] The following list shows the seven artists that have won the award and the first year winning each of the categories required.
