Ceremony information

During its board of directors meeting in April 2019, the Academy voted to rename the Best Foreign Language Film category to Best International Feature Film. Animated and documentary films will also be eligible for the renamed award (as was the case of Honeyland), but the category will still require nominees to have the majority of their dialogue be in a language other than English.

The category of Best Makeup and Hairstyling has been expanded from seven finalists and three nominees to ten finalists and five nominees.

On January 9, 2020, ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke revealed that the ceremony would once again forego a host, citing the success of the format at the previous ceremony (necessitated by the withdrawal of originally announced host Kevin Hart). Burke promised that the ceremony would feature “huge entertainment values, big musical numbers, comedy, and star power”.

Eminem Kamikaze Tour Abu Dhabi

Eminem will be back in the United Arab Emirates for his first performance in seven years. He’ll be performing a massive Abu Dhabi show at Du Arena on Yas Island. The last time he graced us with his presence was to close out the Formula 1 2012 weekend.

This will be the Abu Dhabi leg of Eminem’s critically-acclaimed Kamikaze world tour and promises to showcase his epic flow and lyrical genius.  He’s one of the world’s biggest and most respected hip-hop artists,

The Real Slim Shady sits on a mountain of rap accolades, record-breaking releases and awards. He’s taking all that and a sack full of showmanship on the road for the promotional tour of his tenth studio album, ‘Kamikaze.’

Eminem’s return to the UAE will take place on the 25th October, where he’ll be lighting up the du Arena at with his ‘Kamikaze’ world tour.

His trademark flow, which inspired an entire genre within rap, is characterised by speed, verbosity and lyrical dexterity. Your boy rains sulphur in the booth. Eminem attributes much of his skill in crafting rhymes to his detailed study of the dictionary in his youth. He is an arch-linguist as much as he is an armed-lyricist.

It’s been 20 years since the release of his ‘Slim Shady LP,’ which was put together under the tutorage of Dr Dre, and the one man hit factory has been stacking-up platinum plaques ever since. Just a brief browse through the Marshall Mathers (Eminem’s birth name) Juke Box uncovers a library of generation-defining beats.

Mathers is absolutely worthy of the ‘King of Hip Hop’ title Rolling Stone placed on him in their list of the 100 greatest artists of all time. Although he was probably hoping for a slightly loftier title.

The underground king gone global promises an A star performance,  Fans will lose themselves in the music and the moment with a set list that will throw back to the 1990s and 2000s, featuring some of Mathers’ most iconic tracks, including ‘The Way I Am’, ‘The Real Slim Shady’, ‘Without Me’, ‘Till I Collapse’, ‘Mockingbird’ and fan favourite, ‘Lose Yourself’.

Fans will also be treated to renditions of The Real Slim Shady’s more recent work with tracks from his latest album Kamikaze, the best-selling Hip-Hop album of 2018, including, ‘The Greatest’, ‘Lucky You’ and ‘Nice Guy’.

Gwen Stefani re-joins The Voice for season 17

News broke that Adam Levine is leaving The Voice after 16 seasons and Gwen Stefani will be taking his place for Season 17.  According to Taste Of Country, Levine decided to leave the show because of the new rules and format that doesn’t guarantee each judge taking a contestant to the semi-finals or finals.

New episodes of season 17 of The Voice will return to NBC this fall on September 23, 2019, and will air at 8 p.m. on Monday and Tuesdays.  Kelly Clarkson and John Legend will be joining Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton as judges.

The Voice is an international reality television singing competition franchise. It is based on the reality singing competition The Voice of Holland, which was originally created by Dutch television producer John de Mol. Many other countries have adapted the format and begun airing their own versions since 2010. It has become a rival to the Idols franchise, Rising Star, All Together Now franchise, and The X Factor.

John de Mol, creator of Big Brother, first created The Voice concept with Dutch singer Roel van Velzen. Erland Galjaard, a Dutch program director, asked John de Mol about whether he could come up with a format that went a step further than The X Factor. De Mol then came up with the idea of Blind Audition. He wanted to focus on singing quality alone, so the coaches must be top artists in the music industry. The rotating chairs concept was invented by Roel van Velzen. It would also be the first talent show in which social media was actively involved.[1]

On 17 September 2010, The Voice of Holland began to air on RTL 4 with Angela Groothuizen, Roel van Velzen, Nick & Simon, and Jeroen van der Boom as the mentor-judges (dubbed as “coaches”) of the show.[2] The show proved to be an instant success in the Netherlands.[3][4]

The format was later sold to different countries, in many cases replacing a previous Endemol music contest format, Operation Triumph / Star Academy.

Jeff Bridges at the 7th Annual Bay Area Lyme Disease Foundation Dinner

At the 7th Annual Bay Area Lyme Disease Foundation dinner, actor and musician Jeff Bridges — along with scientists and Lyme disease patients — joined forces to raise awareness about the disease.

“A tough disease and it’s often misdiagnosed,” said actor and musician Jeff Bridges. “I have a dear friend, Kris Kristofferson, who 30 years ago was misdiagnosed and given all sort of medication and it turns out he had Lyme disease and didn’t know it.”

In the crowd was Kristen Stein, a Marin County resident who was diagnosed with the disease nine years ago. Stein takes 20 pills every morning to boost her immune system.

“It got in there and did a lot of damage. It had a lot of time to take its time to damage my neurological, and muscular and skeletal and it damaged all those areas,” said Stein.

Medical experts says 60 percent of Lyme disease cases are misdiagnosed and some are even told they have the flu.

“Ticks are feeding on many different animals and they pick up different bacteria, viruses and pathogens and we think of them as natures dirty needle,” said Dr. Sunjya Schweig from the California Center for Functional Medicine, “They’ll pick up these pathogens from animal to animal and pass it to the next one. If the next happens to be a human.”

The Bay Area Lyme Foundation is hoping to raise $1 million for testing in search for a cure.

“Tick test usually cost between $60- $200 to get a tick tested so we want to offer the public free tick testing,” said Linda Giampa executive director for the Bay Area Lyme Foundation.

Ticks can be found in moist areas the hot spots in the Bay Area are Mendocino and Marin Headlands. They are extremely small and can difficult to see, if you have been bit check with your primary doctor to get tested.

Donald Glover & Rihanna – Guava Island

Guava Island dropped on Amazon Prime Video and there were a few Amazon Videos shared.  Those videos continued with the release of the screening event at Coachella 2019, which Donald Glover attended to promote the movie.  There was also a clip of Glover and Rhianna in the movie.  This is a chance to listen to Glover’s amazing voice, along with his sexy dance moves.

A young musician seeks to hold a festival to liberate the oppressed people of Guava Island, even if only for a day.

Guava Island is a 2019 American musical film directed by Hiro Murai (his feature directorial debut) with a screenplay by Stephen Glover from a story by Donald Glover, Stephen Glover, Ibra Ake, Jamal Olori and Fam Udeorji. It stars Donald Glover and Rihanna in the lead roles of Deni and Kofi, respectively, and was first exhibited at Coachella. It was then released by Amazon Studios through Amazon Prime Video.

An animated folk tale narrated by Kofi Novia introduces the origins of Guava Island and the music played by Deni Maroon. Kofi and Deni live together and she wakes up to Deni playing a tune on the guitar. Deni, a local celebrity, rushes out of the house and is greeted by many passersby on the street on his way to work; Deni is holding a music festival that the whole town is looking forward to. He is mugged by a group of kids he knows and he convinces them not to rob him by promising them seats up front at the festival.

Kofi works as a seamstress with Yara while Deni works for Red Cargo, a business magnate on the island. While at work, an employee details what he would do if he were able to emigrate to America, which Deni dismisses as ignorant (“This Is America“).  Deni is kidnapped and taken to Red Cargo’s office.  Red bribes Deni into canceling his festival so that it will not interrupt productivity the next day.  When Deni challenges him, Red destroys his guitar.

He returns to Kofi, who immediately questions his injury and his guitar’s absence. Deni brushes off her inquiry, instead serenading her with the song he had promised to write since they were children (“Summertime Magic“). They are interrupted when Deni suddenly has to go, and she is not able to tell him at that moment she is pregnant. Kofi expresses to Yara that she is reluctant to tell him because of his free-spirited lifestyle.

Inspired by two children, Zoila and Mapi (“Time”), Deni performs on the radio again and announces that the festival is back on (“Feels Like Summer“). Kofi is ambushed by Red while both look for Deni; Red asks Kofi to tell him to break a leg. Deni starts the festival late, and performs a song dedicated to Zoila and Mapi (“Saturday”). Kofi spots a masked gunman just before he opens fire on the stage. Deni attempts to escape through an alleyway, but the gunman eventually catches up and assassinates him.

Red is delighted with the development, only to find out all of his employees have left work.  Kofi and the islanders have all opted to attend a joyous blue-themed memorial for Deni (“Die with You”); Kofi states that they all finally “got their day”.  Kofi tells their child a new and improved version of the story.

Jeremy Sisto – CBS FBI – Homeward LA‘s Kick-Off 2019

Jeremy Sisto is excellent in the CBS series FBI, helping to steer the team as Assistant Special Agent in Charge Jubal Valentine.  The CBS series is shedding some light on his character’s personal life, giving him an opportunity to take center stage.

Sisto spoke to One Chicago Center about why portraying Jubal is different from many of his previous roles. He also talked about re-teaming with creator Dick Wolf after his three seasons starring as Cyrus Lupo on Law & Order, and working with creatives from Wolf’s One Chicago franchise.

Jeremy Sisto’s career has moved effortlessly between film, television and theater, and he has continued to have a constant presence throughout the entertainment industry.

Sisto made his first major impression on television as bipolar artist Billy Chenowith on “Six Feet Under.” In its five-year run, the show earned three Golden Globe Awards, three Primetime Emmy Awards and 25 Emmy nominations.

Additional television credits include “Ice,” “Wicked City,” “The Returned,” “Kidnapped,” “Law & Order” and “Suburgatory.” Also, he starred in National Geographic’s television miniseries “The Long Road Home.”

Academy of Country Music Awards 2019

The Academy of Country Music Awards, also known as the ACM Awards, were first held in 1966, honoring the industry’s accomplishments during the previous year. It was the first country music awards program held by a major organization. The Academy’s signature “hat” trophy was first created in 1968. The awards were first televised in 1972 on ABC. In 1979, the Academy joined with Dick Clark Productions to produce the show. Dick Clark and Al Schwartz served as producers while Gene Weed served as director. Under their guidance, the show moved to NBC and finally to CBS, where it remains today.

In 2003, the awards show left Los Angeles and moved to Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Events Center through 2005. The Academy also adopted a sleeker, modern version of the “hat” trophy in 2003, which is now made by the New York City firm Society Awards. In 2004, the organization implemented online awards voting for its professional members, becoming the first televised awards show to do so. Entertainer of the Year was a fan-voted award for eight years, until 2016, when the ACM announced its decision to abandon Internet-voting for it and the three new-artist categories.

The show was moved to the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas from 2006 through 2014 before relocating to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex in 2015 to celebrate its 50th anniversary. The 2015 show broke the Guinness record for Most Attended Awards Show, with 70,252 The show returned to the MGM Grand Garden Arena in 2016 then moved to the new T-Mobile Arena in 2017. In 2018, the ACM Awards returned to the MGM Grand Garden Arena. It was announced on February 20, 2019, that the show would be held again at the MGM Grand Garden Area with the return of Reba McEntire as the hostess for her 16th time.

Country music icon Reba McEntire has returned to hosting the 54th Academy of Country Music Awards for the 16th time Sunday night. Chris Stapleton and Keith Urban lead in the top categories with nominations for both male artist of the year and entertainer of the year.

McEntire also shared some details about her hosting gig, which she promised would be politics-free.

“We’ve got to keep it light. We’ve got to keep it fun. No politics. This is fun. This is entertainment. We are in the entertainment business, and that’s what we’re going to be doing,” she said.

Artists of the decade

Triple-Crown Award

The Triple-Crown Award is an elite honor that has been presented to only eight country artists in the history of the Academy of Country Music Awards. The honor distinguishes the achievement of an artist, duo or group upon receiving the New Artist (or New Male Vocalist, New Female Vocalist, New Solo Vocalist, New Vocal Duo, New Vocal Group or New Vocal Duo or Group), and Male/Female Vocalist (or Vocal Duo, Vocal Group, Vocal Duo or Group) and Entertainer of the Year awards.[8] Among the later recipients, Carrie Underwood received it at the ACM Awards,[9] while Jason Aldean at the Annual ACM Honors.[10] The following list shows the seven artists that have won the award and the first year winning each of the categories required.
